The release of the Inc. 5000, which tracks private companies' growth over the past three years before ranking them against their national peers, invariably shines a spotlight on fledgling local companies.

In Portland, the 2018 Oregon lineup includes AltSource, which specializes in software and custom applications. The company employs 110 workers and grew by 130 percent between 2014 and 2017.

We reached out to AltSource's Adam Oakley, director of client services, to find out a bit more about his 14-year-old company, which is expanding into a Southeast Hawthorne and 12th Avenue space.

I didn’t realize you had 110 employees. How many more do you expect to hire at the new office? We are currently hiring for more than 10 open position in the Portland office and we expect there will be more job openings added on an ongoing basis as we work to stay ahead of the increasing demand from our customers. We look for developers who want to make a direct impact with clients and seek to have choices over the technical direction of their projects.

What are some of the accommodations the new office will have? Our headquarters in Southeast Portland features a bright, modern work environment with a wrap-around patio and floor-to-ceiling windows on the upper level, looking out to the west hills and downtown. We’ve also added roll-up garage doors in the kitchen, secure indoor bike parking, showers and lockers, a ping-pong room and other nice features. Our building has great proximity to transit, the Willamette river and southeast Portland’s thriving food scene.

Your founder Dave Moore is a Portland native. Talk about the importance, given that, of keeping your company here in town. It’s been important to Dave, our founder and president, to invest in building our company in a great area of the city. The location of AltSource, in the thriving inner southeast area, is a great perk for our employees and enhances their ability to balance work, and their time with family and friends.

Do you hope to sustain your growth? Our new headquarters was designed with growth in mind, and will serve as our base for supporting continued growth in Portland and beyond.
